What is an Au Pair?

An au pair is a young person aged between 18 -26, who lives with a host Family abroad, for a period of 6 up to 12 months, in order to improve on the English language and to experience new cultures. Families should note that an au pair may not be really child minders, However they are very motivated to do this work.

Duties
Helping to take care of the children: Dressing, helping with Breakfast, lunches, evening meals, swimming, walking or driving to play school or nursery, Babysitting and etc. Assist with light household duties, dusting, ironing vacuuming, and simple cooking.

Some au pairs are experienced drivers. However if you require your au pair to drive we suggest you book a few lessons with your local Driving school. Check license validity and make sure, Driving is covered by your Car Insurance for the au pair and for the childeren.

Contract period
The au pair contract period with a host family is a minimum of 6 continuous months and a maximum of 12 continuous months. After the end of the contract period the au pair will be going back to their own country. The Host family will guide the au pair to the airport.

Working Hours
Maximum 30 hours a week spread over 5 days and a maximum of 8 hours a day. Maximum number of evening babysitting activities is 3.

Free Time
1 Day a week, and once a month a full weekend.

Recommended Pocket Money
Recommended pocket money for an Au Pair is between 75 90 Euros paid on a weekly basis or 300-340 Euros paid per month.
